The RAIM building is characterized by a futuristic sphere-like structure. The roofing requirements were very challenging. In particular, special attention was needed for the gutter section located in the middle of the dome and around the opening area.
The steel roof structure was first covered with mineral wool insulation, steel plates and cover boards. Elevate’s RubberGard EPDM roofing membrane was then fully adhered on top. Afterwards, metal rain screens were mounted on gasket fixations throughout the roof structure. Each rain screen panel was different, no two panels were identical, so installation and positioning of the fixations was critical.
Installation of the roof was carried out by HWA Seok Engineering, Elevate’s long-term partner in South Korea, who has vast experience with similar projects. They also provided technical support to the architects and had sufficient local stock, meaning they could react quickly to the customer's needs.
EPDM is the most future-proof roofing solution when it comes to sustainability, performance and design freedom. Learn more about the role it played within this project and many others by discovering its benefits.
