Docks Market is a chain of wholesale grocery stores. The roof of their store in Novara, North of Italy, was compromised after a major hailstorm and needed to be renovated. The existing roof assembly consisted of a concrete slab roof deck, a protective geotextile layer and a PVC roofing membrane on top.

Location | Novara, Italy |
Project type | Renovation |
Building type | Commercial building |
Roof surface | ca. 5,000 m2 |
Product used | UltraPly TPO 1.5 mm |
System used | Mechanically attached (induction) |
The renovation called for a resilient solution, with a roofing membrane that could guarantee durability and resistance to weathering and hail. The contractor involved in the project - Guerra - immediately suggested Elevate’s 1.5 mm thick UltraPly TPO thermoplastic membrane.
The existing PVC roofing was not removed, but simply detensioned and cut to avoid the costs of removal and disposal. A 300 g/m² geotextile separation layer was laid on top of the existing roofing prior to installing the UltraPly TPO membrane.
The membrane was mechanically attached through induction welding. This is a non-penetrating attachment method in which the roofing membrane is heat-welded to special TPO coated metal plates by means of an induction tool. This method, where the induction plates are fixed into the substrate as per a symmetrical design pattern, provides high wind uplift ratings and reduces labor and material costs. In the areas around the skylights, the old PVC covering was removed and the TPO membrane was glued with bonding adhesive to ensure a perfect sealing. The store was able to remain open without interruption during the duration of the works.
