Elevate’s RubberGard EPDM roofing membrane boast excellent qualities in terms of waterproofing, sustainability and durability. There are, however, a couple of things you should consider before choosing this synthetic rubber roofing system. In this article we help you determine if a single-ply EPDM roofing membrane is the right solution for your building design.
Future-proof roofing solutions need to be able to cope with the ongoing wear and tear caused by heavy rains, harsh sun exposure, snow, and even bird droppings. In the case of solar roofs, the roofing system should outlive the photovoltaic installation on top of it. RubberGard EPDM does all of that and boasts one of the highest UV-resistance among all available roofing membranes.
And what about blue roofs? Thanks to their impeccable waterproofing features, single-ply EPDM membranes enable roofs to retain water, slowing down drainage and playing a key role in water harvesting systems.
EPDM roofing membranes such as RubberGard EPDM have a life expectancy of over 50 years*, with an unchanged structure and elasticity. Should punctures or damages occur, they can be easily repaired to extend the roofing’s lifespan even further.
Speaking of elasticity: thanks to its extreme flexibility and availability in large, single-ply sheets, RubberGard EPDM also enables the design freedom you need to rethink the architecture of the future.
In addition to being easy to repair, RubberGard EPDM is reusable and recyclable – and requires fewer resources to be manufactured, compared to traditional roofing solutions. In this way, it actively contributes to achieving the highest ratings in green building schemes such as BREEAM, LEED and DGNB.
RubberGard EPDM is also chemically inert which means it does not release any toxic substances during or after installation.
Installing RubberGard EPDM is fast, flame-free and safe for both people and the environment. It’s suitable for both new build and refurbishment projects and can be installed directly on top of the existing roofing system. Adequate surface preparation might be needed in these cases.
The performance of any roofing system is directly linked to the quality of its installation. Ease of installation should, however, not be confused with ‘can be installed by anyone’. We are aware of inexperienced contractors offering to install EPDM roofing systems – often with disastrous consequences for their clients.
