Elevate’s UltraPly TPO membrane used on Poland’s most modern educational and recreational building complex

About 11,000 m² of white UltraPly TPO roofing membrane were installed on the roof of the Marki Educational and Recreation Center (MCER) in central Poland. The complex consists of two buildings. The first one houses a primary school, a library and a canteen. The second building is dedicated to sports and leisure activities: it contains a swimming pool, sports rooms, a theatre and an entertainment hall. There are also two outdoor athletics tracks.

General contractor Budimex began construction works in March 2018 and the installation of the roofing system started in September of that year. Elevate’s UltraPly TPO thermoplastic roofing membrane was secured with three different types of ballast: regular gravel, green roof (sedum vegetation) and a decorative pond with a natural filtration system.

Overall energy efficiency was a key factor for this project. This meant that the roofing system had to be compatible with the installation of solar panels and allow the collection of rainwater. UltraPly TPO is a durable roofing membrane that contains no plasticizers, chlorine or heavy metals, so it’s ideal for water collection. It is also compatible with green roofs and photovoltaic systems. Moreover, its light color reflects the sunlight, providing thermal comfort and contributing to lowering heating and cooling costs.

The implementation of innovative technologies aimed at reducing the facility’s energy consumption allowed the Educational and Recreation Center in Marki to become the first Polish public facility to hold a BREEAM certification.

The entire project was developed using the Building Information Modelling (BIM) model, an interactive platform that allows building owners, architects and contractors to design, plan, build, operate and maintain projects in a collaborative way. Did you know that Elevate has developed BIM files for its RubberGard EPDM and UltraPly TPO roofing systems? The files, which are available for download, have been created using Revit, one of the most widely used BIM software.
