Hotel spa in Germany gets relaxed renovation thanks to RubberGard EPDM
The modern spa facilities at the Land & Golf Hotel Stromberg in Germany were recently given a new, attractively designed outdoor area. Stromberg is located near Bad Kreuznach, between the green foothills of the Hunsrück and the Rhine. The Land & Golf Hotel Stromberg has 174 rooms and suites, 18 conference rooms and an 18-hole golf course. The spa is a real crowd puller, offering guests 2,800 m² of pure relaxation. It features an indoor and an outdoor pool, 5 different saunas, 4 relaxation rooms and a fitness room. A wellness garden with a spacious sunbathing area and a sun terrace complete the offer.

The spa was completely renovated and extended in early 2020 to meet the steadily increasing expectations of guests. Local roofing contractor Alexander Wobido and his team, who are specialized in EPDM, had already been involved in the construction works in 2012, when the wellness garden with outdoor pool and the wellness house were originally built. At the time, they waterproofed a 400 m² roof area with Elevate’s RubberGard EPDM roofing membrane and installed an extensive green roof system on top. They used a 9 m wide roll, meaning that there was practically no need to do any seams.
The renovation works of 2020 consisted in converting another existing roof into a roof garden. The roof, which had also been waterproofed with RubberGard EPDM, only featured one transversal joint, which was re-sealed to obtain maximum protection against root penetration. About 200 m² were covered with gravel, 120 m² received a green roof and 80 m² became an accessible sun terrace with paving stones. The pillars supporting the concrete roof were reinforced to be able to absorb the increased load of the roof garden. Beyond that, no further steps were necessary.
Thanks to the adaptability of the RubberGard EPDM roofing membrane to changes in the roof configuration, the renovation could be carried out in a relaxed manner without having to replace the existing roofing membrane.
